Antes de aclararlo, repasemos algunos conceptos b\u00e1sicos sobre el sonido.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Longitud de onda del sonido<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Primero, recordemos la definici\u00f3n de la velocidad del sonido (\u201cC\u201d) al nivel del mar a 21 \u00b0C \/ 70 \u00b0F y en condiciones atmosf\u00e9ricas normales. Se define como C = f \u03bb, donde \u201cf\u201d representa la frecuencia y \u201c\u03bb\u201d la longitud de onda. Ambas son iguales a 344 m\/s (1128 pies\/s).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pero \u00bfqu\u00e9 es la longitud de onda? En f\u00edsica, la longitud de onda es el periodo espacial de una onda peri\u00f3dica, es decir, la distancia en la que se repite la forma de la onda. Es la distancia entre puntos correspondientes consecutivos de la misma fase de la onda, como dos crestas adyacentes, valles adyacentes o pasos por cero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When a sound propagates through air, the air is compressed or rarefied in waves that travel out from the audio source. When those compressed or rarified areas of air hit your eardrum, it vibrates in sympathy with those compression waves in the air and allows you to hear. Sin embargo, este art\u00edculo se centra en el acoplamiento mutuo que se da concretamente entre transductores de baja frecuencia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El fen\u00f3meno del acoplamiento mutuo se da cuando dos o m\u00e1s transductores reproducen la misma se\u00f1al, con sus centros ac\u00fasticos cercanos y apuntando en la misma direcci\u00f3n con longitudes de onda menores a la distancia entre sus centros ac\u00fasticos. En esta situaci\u00f3n, la presi\u00f3n sonora combinada se propaga hacia delante como una sola onda, como si todos los transductores funcionaran como un \u00fanico transductor de mayor tama\u00f1o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>En el caso de usar \u00fanicamente dos transductores, el principio es que sus centros ac\u00fasticos deben estar cerca, entre 1\/4 y 1\/2 de la longitud de onda de la frecuencia que est\u00e9n reproduciendo. Primero, si instalamos dos transductores juntos a una distancia mayor de la mitad de la longitud de onda de la frecuencia reproducida, la salida promedio medida en el eje y fuera del eje aumentar\u00e1 hasta en 3 dB, lo que supone el doble de potencia. Ahora bien, si instalamos dos transductores lo suficientemente juntos como para beneficiarse del efecto de acoplamiento mutuo, se producir\u00e1 una salida hasta con 6 dB m\u00e1s potente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Las ventajas y sus aplicaciones<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Para ilustrar el fen\u00f3meno anterior, tengamos en cuenta las especificaciones t\u00e9cnicas de un subwoofer activo KS118 de QSC. Su respuesta en frecuencia (-6 dB) va de 41 Hz a 98 Hz. Tal como hemos comentado, debemos tener en cuenta la frecuencia m\u00e1s alta que puede generar el subwoofer para calcular la longitud de onda menor con la f\u00f3rmula C = f \u03bb).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">\u00bd de longitud de onda a 98 Hz = 1,75 m (5,75 pies)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Por tanto, mientras los subwoofers KS118 tengan sus centros ac\u00fasticos en una distancia menor o igual a 1,75 m (5,75  pies), se producir\u00e1 acoplamiento mutuo, con el beneficio de una potencia adicional de 6 dB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusi\u00f3n<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Como hemos visto, es relativamente sencillo beneficiarse del acoplamiento mutuo de los subwoofers, ya que pueden colocarse juntos a una distancia menor de la mitad de la longitud de onda de la frecuencia m\u00e1s alta que pueden producir. Lograr un SPL elevado en las frecuencias graves con un n\u00famero reducido de subwoofers es lo que motiva a las compa\u00f1\u00edas de giras, productoras de eventos, DJ e instaladores a colocar los subwoofers cerca los unos de los otros.
