Nous le savons tous. Mais il existe plusieurs fa\u00e7ons de concevoir des enceintes acoustiques capables d\u2019une restitution sonore pr\u00e9cise et agr\u00e9able. Les enceintes peuvent \u00eatre passives, actives ou amplifi\u00e9es. La terminologie pour d\u00e9crire ces diff\u00e9rents types d\u2019enceintes et leur technologie est tr\u00e8s souvent utilis\u00e9e de fa\u00e7on erron\u00e9e. Nous allons donc \u00e9claircir certains points techniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Avant d\u2019examiner les d\u00e9tails de chaque technologie, il convient de d\u00e9finir certains \u00e9l\u00e9ments en lien avec nos explications. Tout d\u2019abord, cet article part du principe qu\u2019on part d\u2019une source de signal audio au niveau ligne (le niveau de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence le plus courant pour un appareil professionnel est de +4 dBu, et de -10 dBV pour un appareil grand public) pour chaque type d\u2019enceinte dont nous allons parler. Les niveaux ligne sont indiqu\u00e9s en vert dans les sch\u00e9mas ci-dessous, tandis que les signaux au niveau haut-parleur (repr\u00e9sentant parfois des dizaines de d\u00e9cibel) en sortie de l\u2019amplificateur de puissance apparaissent en marron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>L\u2019enceinte passive<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Ce sont les ing\u00e9nieurs danois Peter L. Jensen et Edwin Pridham qui ont fabriqu\u00e9 les premi\u00e8res enceintes \u00e9lectrodynamiques \u00e0 bobine mobile r\u00e9ellement utilisables en 1915 \u00e0 Napa, en Californie. Ils ont invent\u00e9 ce qu\u2019on appelle une enceinte passive, un concept toujours utilis\u00e9 et fabriqu\u00e9 dans le monde entier par de nombreuses marques, notamment QSC (voir notre S\u00e9rie E).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les enceintes passives comprennent un bo\u00eetier, un ou plusieurs transducteurs (aussi appel\u00e9s haut-parleurs) et un filtre passif (crossover). Elles n\u2019ont pas besoin d\u2019alimentation secteur (la tension \u00e9lectrique fournie par les prises murales : 230 V, 110 V, etc.) puisque leurs transducteurs utilisent des composants \u00e9lectriques passifs et les forces \u00e9lectromagn\u00e9tiques. Elles re\u00e7oivent un signal au niveau ligne amplifi\u00e9 (en marron ci-dessous) depuis un amplificateur de puissance autonome. Ce dernier amplifie le signal au niveau ligne provenant de la source audio et\/ou du pr\u00e9amplificateur pour obtenir un niveau de signal adapt\u00e9 aux transducteurs. Un amplificateur trop faible sera incapable de faire fonctionner une enceinte au maximum de ses performances et provoquera une distorsion du signal audio bien avant que l\u2019enceinte n\u2019atteigne son niveau de pression acoustique le plus \u00e9lev\u00e9. \u00c0 l\u2019inverse, un amplificateur trop puissant risque de surcharger le filtre et les transducteurs des enceintes passives, entra\u00eenant une distorsion et la d\u00e9t\u00e9rioration des transducteurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>L\u2019enceinte active<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Les premi\u00e8res enceintes actives ont \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7ues au milieu des ann\u00e9es 60 par des marques comme JBL et Klein &amp; Hummel, et peu apr\u00e8s par Altec et Meyer Sound. La conception d\u2019une enceinte active n\u00e9cessite un ou plusieurs bo\u00eetiers, un ou plusieurs transducteurs, un filtre (crossover) actif et des amplificateurs de puissance s\u00e9par\u00e9s, chacun \u00e9tant d\u00e9di\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019une des bandes de fr\u00e9quences extraite par le filtre actif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Une enceinte active est con\u00e7ue pour recevoir un signal au niveau ligne d\u2019une source audio et\/ou d\u2019un pr\u00e9amplificateur, puis pour amplifier (et traiter) ce signal en interne. Pour ce faire, elle a besoin d\u2019une tension secteur. Tout d\u2019abord, le signal au niveau ligne est divis\u00e9 en plusieurs bandes de fr\u00e9quence par le filtre actif. Notez que certains syst\u00e8mes de sonorisation pour grandes salles utilisent des bo\u00eetiers (enceintes) distincts pour les hautes, moyennes et basses fr\u00e9quences. Aucun bo\u00eetier d\u2019enceinte n\u2019est connect\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019alimentation secteur.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 cette technologie, les filtres actifs peuvent \u00eatre mieux optimis\u00e9s pour diviser le signal audio de mani\u00e8re claire et pr\u00e9cise, puisqu\u2019ils ne sont pas concern\u00e9s par les probl\u00e8mes de puissance. La s\u00e9paration du signal au niveau ligne s\u2019effectue \u00e0 un niveau \u00e9lectrique beaucoup plus faible que les signaux au niveau haut-parleur. En outre, comme les concepteurs contr\u00f4lent tous les composants utilis\u00e9s, chaque \u00e9l\u00e9ment peut \u00eatre optimis\u00e9 afin d\u2019obtenir les meilleures performances audio possibles. Citons par exemple l\u2019adaptation parfaite de l\u2019imp\u00e9dance entre la sortie de chaque amplificateur de puissance et l\u2019imp\u00e9dance d\u2019entr\u00e9e du transducteur correspondant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Les conceptions actives apportent plusieurs autres avantages techniques, comme la possibilit\u00e9 d\u2019appliquer en interne une \u00e9galisation au transducteur, d\u2019int\u00e9grer des circuits de protection avanc\u00e9s (suivi de la dissipation thermique, du d\u00e9battement du transducteur, de l\u2019\u00e9cr\u00eatage \u00e9lectronique, etc.) ainsi qu\u2019un traitement num\u00e9rique du signal (DSP) en utilisant des convertisseurs A\/N (analogique-num\u00e9rique) et N\/A suppl\u00e9mentaires comme dans les S\u00e9ries K.2, KLA, KW et CP de QSC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>L\u2019enceinte amplifi\u00e9e<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On confond souvent enceintes amplifi\u00e9es et enceintes actives. M\u00eame si les termes \u00ab amplifi\u00e9e \u00bb et \u00ab active \u00bb sont utilis\u00e9s indiff\u00e9remment, notamment en communication marketing, il convient de diff\u00e9rencier clairement ces technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sur le plan technique, les enceintes amplifi\u00e9es peuvent \u00eatre similaires aux enceintes passives, ou combiner la technologie passive et la technologie active. La principale diff\u00e9rence est qu\u2019une enceinte amplifi\u00e9e ne comprend pas d\u2019amplificateur de puissance individuel pour chaque transducteur. De plus, contrairement \u00e0 une enceinte purement active, une enceinte amplifi\u00e9e comprend un filtre passif. Les compromis in\u00e9vitables des filtres passifs (un aspect non abord\u00e9 dans cet article) s\u2019appliquent donc aussi aux enceintes amplifi\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans l\u2019illustration 4 ci-dessous, l\u2019enceinte amplifi\u00e9e fonctionne de la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re qu\u2019une enceinte passive, \u00e0 la diff\u00e9rence qu\u2019elle int\u00e8gre un amplificateur monocanal dans son bo\u00eetier. Comme cet amplificateur n\u00e9cessite une alimentation secteur, on dit que l\u2019enceinte est \u00ab amplifi\u00e9e \u00bb. En termes de performances \u00e9lectroniques et acoustiques, cette enceinte \u00ab amplifi\u00e9e \u00bb n\u2019est pas diff\u00e9rente d\u2019une enceinte passive classique. La conception et les performances \u00e9lectroacoustiques sont identiques \u00e0 celles d\u2019une enceinte passive.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans l\u2019illustration 5 ci-dessous, l\u2019enceinte amplifi\u00e9e int\u00e8gre un filtre actif, qui divise le signal au niveau ligne en deux bandes de fr\u00e9quences distinctes. Si le canal de grave dispose d\u2019un amplificateur de puissance d\u00e9di\u00e9 avant le transducteur (rendant ce canal r\u00e9ellement \u00ab actif \u00bb), le second canal, lui, passe par un filtre passif suppl\u00e9mentaire, afin d\u2019extraire une bande de fr\u00e9quences pour le m\u00e9dium et une pour le tweeter. L\u2019enceinte se branche bien sur le secteur, mais ce n\u2019est pas une enceinte active d\u2019un point de vue technique.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Un certain nombre de moniteurs de studio et d\u2019enceintes hi-fi sont con\u00e7us de cette mani\u00e8re pour r\u00e9duire les co\u00fbts, car ils ont seulement besoin de deux canaux d\u2019amplification plut\u00f4t que d\u2019un filtre actif \u00e0 3 voies plus complexe qui alimente trois amplificateurs de puissance s\u00e9par\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Si votre enceinte (et son filtre passif interne) ne se branche pas sur le secteur, il s\u2019agit d\u2019une enceinte passive. En dehors des syst\u00e8mes de sonorisation complexes pour grandes salles, si votre enceinte est connect\u00e9e au secteur, il est utile de savoir s\u2019il s\u2019agit d\u2019une v\u00e9ritable enceinte active ou d\u2019une enceinte amplifi\u00e9e \u00ab hybride \u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En conclusion, toutes les enceintes actives n\u00e9cessitent une alimentation secteur (elles sont \u00ab amplifi\u00e9es \u00bb), mais les enceintes amplifi\u00e9es ne doivent pas toutes \u00eatre qualifi\u00e9es d\u2019actives. Alors, faites attention et v\u00e9rifiez que vous achetez pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment la technologie d\u2019enceinte dont vous avez besoin. Ne vous laissez pas berner par les mots.
