Orlando, Florida-based OPAV, a live production company that supports more than 1,000 events annually, has identified QSC L Class loudspeakers as an important and profitable part of its inventory.
According to OPAV owner and CEO Jesse Durlin, the line has become a “revenue-generating workhorse” in fulfilling the needs of clients from small hotel events to large outdoor festivals. “We’ve used them in a single stick-and-speaker setup for small hotel spaces to flown arrays for general sessions or outdoor concerts,” he adds. “They’re very flexible, and they sound great even when we redline them without the audience experiencing distortion.”
OPAV’s inventory includes LA108 and LA112 active line array loudspeakers as well as LS118 active subwoofers. Their scalability allows OPAV to adapt systems for events regardless of size, while their durability helps ensure reliable performance across back-to-back rentals. “We can ‘turn and burn’ them through multiple events with minimal maintenance and almost no downtime,” Durlin states.
“Our rental inventory needs to be rugged enough to survive our demanding event cycles, yet flexible and high performing enough to satisfy clients with increasingly higher expectations,” he continues. “We probably have QSC on every show we do in some form, from front fills and wedges to full-scale flown arrays, and we make more money off QSC than some of our higher-end speakers. They’re always in rotation and rarely break down.”
He adds that the L Class also cuts labor costs by allowing one person to handle deployment due to their light weight and internal rigging hardware. “Sending one tech instead of two makes a big difference,” Durlin notes. “It frees up our crew for other jobs and helps us keep expenses down.
“They’re easy to deploy, they sound great, and they last,” he concludes. “What more could you ask for in rental gear?”
