Guitarist, singer and online music instructor Robbie Calvo recently added the TouchMix-8 to his gear list. Robbie is using the TouchMix for recording the audio for his YouTube performance videos, his TrueFire instructional guitar videos as well as gigging with it on his solo performances and clinics all over the world.
Check out this video of Robbie performing “Yesterday” by the Beatles in his home studio, audio was recorded on the TouchMix-8.
Robbie describes his gear, his setup and how he recorded the audio for the above video:
“Setting up the TouchMix-8 for a live performance couldn’t be easier and recording the gig is a breeze too. Here’s how I achieved both aspects for this performance.
I ran my tracks directly from an I-Pad to channels 1 & 2 on the TouchMix and stereo linked the channels. My guitar went into the Line 6 Helix and I ran the stereo XLR outputs to channels 3 & 4 of the TouchMix and stereo linked those channels too. I panned channels 1 & 3 hard left and 2 & 4 hard right for a wide stereo spread. I used the EQ on the stereo tracks to roll – off some low end at around 50Hz.
Vocals went from my TC Electronic Harmony Vocalist directly to channel 5 of TouchMix. I added some light compression and a lush plate reverb.
Set up for a gig takes only a few minutes. It’s really simple to navigate the mixer features and once I had it dialed in, I can save the scene as a preset to recall at any time I want to, which makes set up even quicker.
Recording a session is just as easy. I placed a USB 64GB thumb drive into the TouchMix rear port, pushed the front panel Record/Play button, armed tracks 1 through 5 and hit the record button. Once I was finished recording, I pressed the stop button and my session was captured to the thumb drive as individual WAV files for each armed input. It’s possible to mix and playback sessions in the mixer itself but I chose to drop the WAV files into Logic so that I could sync the audio with my video.
The QSC TouchMix-8 is revolutionary in its functions, size, weight and ease of use, and it looks and sounds absolutely amazing.” – Robbie
