In 1992, Syn-Aud-Con co-founder and audio industry legend Don Davis wrote an article (which later became a book) titled, “If Bad Sound Were Fatal, Audio Would Be the Leading Cause of Death.” While it hasn’t killed me yet, I’ve certainly been hurt more than once in public spaces, where it was evident that proper attention … Read More
The best speakers in the world are not going to sound great if they are not located in the proper position and aimed correctly at the audience. The goal of a cinema sound system is to provide the best possible sound to a large number of people. Each seating location should have a similar audio … Read More
Discover the power and flexibility of the new DPA-Q amplifier series Q-SYS – our ecosystem for audio, video, and control – combined with our new DPA-Q amps, has become increasingly popular for powering immersive audio systems in Premium Large Format cinemas. In this post, we’ll show you how you can use our new 8-channel DPA-Q … Read More
One of the hallmarks of QSC products is the concept of the total system design. Simply put, a system of a prescribed set of components that were designed to work together will always outperform a disparate set of components. This is the idea behind QSC’s “SystemSynergy,” any QSC powered loudspeaker, and any system configuration recommendation … Read More
Lead by QSC experts, these small, interactive classrooms open up the mic to students to ask live questions over VoIP, share your screen, interact with colleagues and deepen your QSC system building knowledge. On Demand Webinars If you can’t find a desired topic in the live webinar schedule, check out our On Demand page, which … Read More
Alternative Methods for Distributing Pre-Show Audio It’s not uncommon to insert some pre-show music into the auditorium to kill the awkward silence before the trailers roll. Classic methods for delivering music to the audience as pre-show filler have been to put a local CD/MP3 player at each auditorium or to have a centralized player and … Read More
Setting up DCA amps with QSC DataPort processors and DCS Series Loudspeakers is fast and easy because a single HD-15 cable carries all connections between the amplifiers and processor. Dual channel audio input, control of AC standby mode, amplifier output monitoring and even impedance measurement of loudspeaker loads are all accomplished via a single DataPort cable … Read More
Subwoofer failures have several causes. Repeated failures indicate that there is something wrong with the application or the installation. Simply replacing woofers will not fix the underlying problem. Well-designed, high quality subwoofers should not fail. Check the following things to find the real issue. 1. The room is too big. Another way of saying this … Read More
With the acquisition of Attero Tech, QSC also acquired its amazing engineering staff from Fort Wayne, Indiana. Over the past few months, we have really enjoyed getting to know them and integrating them into the QSC lifestyle! For this blog series, we’d like to introduce our newest team members. First up is Josh Arnold, new … Read More
The Q-SYS network audio, video and control Ecosystem from QSC has capabilities that are so extensive that it can be hard to comprehend all of the things that it can do. Yes, it can serve as your cinema loudspeaker signal processor with crossovers, equalization, delay, and channel routing. But to think of Q-SYS with this … Read More
Take advantage of free acoustical power: always place subwoofers on the floor behind the screen – NOT on a platform with the screen loudspeakers. Floor-positioned subwoofers take advantage of “half-space” loading, which increases radiated power by about 3 dB, WITHOUT adding any extra amplifier power. Even better: place the subwoofers on the floor AND push … Read More
It may look like any old VGA video connector, but it’s not. DCA and ISA Series amplifiers and DCP, DCM, and DXP processors use a special QSC connection interface called DataPort, which enables DSP crossovers, speaker-specific EQ, and monitoring and control of amplifier and loudspeaker functions on a single cable. Although many off-the-shelf VGA cables … Read More
The mid-high frequency section of most 3- and 4-way QSC screen channel loudspeakers has a pre-set downward tilt. When it is properly elevated to approximately 5/8 image height behind the screen and aimed to the last row in a typical stadium-style cinema, there is no need for additional downward tilt. This allows you to minimize … Read More
All QSC SR Series surround loudspeakers feature Axisymmetric coverage. That means that sound is distributed evenly on all axes within the loudspeaker’s defined coverage angle. Unlike many conventional loudspeakers, there is no vertical and horizontal coverage pattern, so aiming is made much simpler. Up/down tilt and side-to-side “pan” aiming is all that is needed to … Read More
In recent years, the term “native” has entered the lexicon of the AV industry as the ultimate level of platform integration, and is closely correlated with providing the highest level of customer experience. Make sense on the surface, right? Theoretically, if a solution is “native”, all of the pieces fit nicely together like a puzzle, … Read More
“Software has two types of value: the value of its behavior and the value of its structure. The second of these is the greater of the two because it is this value that makes software soft.” – Robert Martin, Clean Architecture We live in a software-defined culture. You call a car with an app on … Read More
As network video distribution systems become more commonplace in connected meeting spaces, integrators and end users are presented with new integration challenges. One of the more common concerns is how to ensure that connected video sources display where they need to with the least amount of human intervention. Here are a few things to keep … Read More
The global nature of business has spawned the need for flexible, scalable, and cost-effective communication like video conferencing. The benefits are clear (better collaboration and improved decision making), yet most companies do not use a standardized platform that can easily scale across their entire enterprise. For obvious reasons, we gravitate toward solutions that are familiar … Read More
We’ve been talking a lot about control these days. Q-SYS Control provides the tools to make the job of the programmer that much easier. Well, we’ve got a new tool for you – Q-SYS Designer Asset Manager, which was added to the latest firmware release of Q-SYS Designer Software (v7.1 or higher). Since I’ve been at … Read More
I often get asked to explain the difference between background music (BGM) and foreground music (FGM). The best way to explain is to introduce my friends – the Geeyem brothers. Growing up Brian Geeyem (B. Gee-yem) is the first-born. (Ok, if you haven’t realized by now, these are not real people. Just go with it!) … Read More
